Sicily Portfolio

Artist Statement

This series is a body of work representing my travels through the island of Sicily.  The collection consists of three different groups of images, which include, portraiture, the workingman, and landscape.  This series is a documentation of the diverse people and places that I have encountered during my travels.  Each individual image touches on some aspect of the Sicilians daily life.  The portraiture shows a more personable side to the people.  The workingman focuses on the hardworking locals and their dedication to their craft.  Many of the men will pass their trade down to their sons one day.  Then there are the landscapes of Sicily.  In this series there isn't just traditional landscapes but also urban.  The urban and traditional landscapes work together.  The towns and cities are built into the land and on vast mountains.  By having the three groups of images I feel as though I can share my experience of the Sicilian culture and their way of life, which is vastly different from ours.

The first 5 images you will see were displayed in a group show in the Silpe Gallery along with other photographers and illustrators that had traveled to Sicily on the same trip.  The remaining images displayed were from that trip as well but were not showcased due to the 5 image limit.
